Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko (1891–1956) was a Russian Constructivist artist, designer, and photographer born on December 5, 1891, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. A pioneer of modern graphic design and photography, he helped define the visual language of the Soviet avant-garde through experimental forms and bold social engagement. Working across painting, photography, sculpture, and graphic and industrial design, Rodchenko was a central figure in the Constructivism and Productivism movements. He was married to fellow artist Varvara Stepanova and remained active until his death on December 3, 1956, in Moscow, Soviet Union.
