Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches - Ethiopia - Travel Art Wall Deco Poster | Modern Art Style
Lalibela’s 11 medieval rock-hewn churches were carved from volcanic tuff during the 12th and 13th centuries, traditionally under King Lalibela. Channels, trenches and passageways connect the monolithic and semi-monolithic buildings, including the cross-shaped Church of Saint George. The complex lies in Ethiopia’s Amhara Region and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. A symbolic River Jordan divides its two main groups. Coordinates: 12.0317° N, 39.0476° E.
